Online Tutorials
Last year, in the planning process of our production, we took a look at how to use handy and effective software and programmes like Photoshop and Paint.net, therefore we are all familiar with how to use specific tools and websites, which means that we will be able to create the best possible product. However, we found that by researching visually, the clips and tutorials were able to enable us understand how Photoshop and other similar programmes work, featuring help on how to layer your images efficiently so that they are attractive to the eye, professional, and avoid looking distorted and unrealistic. As we would like to try and avoid giving unauthentic representations of women, so that we are able to appeal to our target audience, without generalizing all young women into one category that very little people fit into.
From our research, we have discovered this tutorial on YouTube, which is a basic video for beginners with the focus of how to use and navigate around Photoshop.
Firstly, the tutorial goes over basic options and beginner tools on Photoshop, e.g. how to open an image in a document and how to save it. The first useful bit of information I got form this video, was how to open an image in the same document without having use the copy and paste tool.
By using the 'place' in 'file' this opens the image in the existing document, so this will make it better quality rather than having to lose quality via copy and pasting, also resulting in saving the user's time. It was also effective in the way of informing one how to edit the image, by flipping or cropping, and this is available in the 'image' tab.
We discovered much of what the tools did, which will therefore assist me when manipulating and editing my images.
Below are the video tutorials where we found the tutorials: -
Both videos helped us to understand how to use and manipulate layers in order to get a better quality product. This will enable us to create a professional-looking front cover, because we are able to arrange the magazine titles, subtitles, mastheads and extras on top of the main image, which is a very useful skill. The second video was very helpful as it gave a really good insight into how to edit the photos effectively and how to edit fonts, benefitting us as a group well because it will give us a more unique style, increasing the brand identity of our product to our aspired target audience.
